Life in Vermont, so far

Bits about our life in Vermont, so far:

It has been an adventure up here. Jeremy spent his first two weeks getting very familiar with the plumbing up at the main house (aka The Burrow.) It mostly works now, and has about 1000% more shut-off valves that it did in early June. He has now settled into his office and work routine. At first we were on dial-up, thinking we could not receive a satellite signal, however, we have a spot in the front of the lower apartment (aka The Moominhouse) that can see the southern sky and receive the signal except in inclement weather.

Aenea has been to a couple of summer camps. Her first was two weeks at Rock School Camp, and she had a great time. The first week she was the only kid there, so she got to play around on seven different instruments. Now she wants to learn to play the bass guitar. The next week she had the experience of being in a group of musicians and working together on a song. Her second camp was at the Vermont Institute of Natural Sciences, where she learned survival in the woods skills, completed her first ROPES course and had a great time. She starts school with three days of orientation next Wednesday and she is very excited. For the first time, we had to buy school supplies (fortunately, we had a list.) We've also done some clothes shopping, and she is now completely in Junior sized clothes, as well as being a good 1.5 " taller than me.

I am feeling a little bit lost. This is the first time in seven years that I am not setting up a classroom for either myself or a friend. Instead, I am figuring out where things are here and keeping track of all the various issues that have come up. Issues like the gas company canceling all Vermont contracts, meaning we had to get a new company quick, meaning we had to pay for having the tanks installed and having them filled, as we could not take the gas out of 3/4 full existing tanks and put it in the new ones. Who knows when we will be reimbursed. Or finding out that some of the tooth restorations I have had FOR LESS THAN A YEAR are cracking, causing pain and sensitivity which expedited me finding a dentist up here and that have to be fixed at additional expense. Or finding an orthodontist who will complete Aenea's treatment without having to replace the brackets she only needs to wear another 8-12 months. Or finding out that due to a re-assessment, our property taxes here are a bit more than double what they have been.

So, that catches up on the personal stuff as far as the move.

What an awesome environment. We love living near the ocean but we sure miss the forest. Glad you guys are enjoying it. I’m curious about the album cover, can’t seem to place it. A curious mind needs to know.
