Musing

From 1-1:30 on our training days is Personal Reflection time. It's one of the core elements of a Montessori Middle School day, and it's a time for rest or reflection for us as interns and for students when we are in our own classrooms. Since I have completed the Personal Reflection assignments during my previous trip/training, seems like this would a good time to blog.

Last year's interns arrived today, adding another perspective for me to watch and reflect on. Next week I will join them as they go over specific curriculum details, which is where I most need a refresher. From the Small World Desk, one returning intern is from the Montessori School I Would Very Much Like to Pay A Visit Observe . The intern describes his director as "nuts," and asked if I would take him...those who get it this far will already be able predict my answer with reasonable certainty.

This afternoon is day one of practice in Socratic Circles. This was one of my favorite parts during my previous training. I keep trying to remind myself that I Must Hold Back My Enthusiasm and Not Make Odd Observations in True Sandy Style. I also need to back off on promoting kayaking for Middle School students. I think I might be scaring off the teacher I will be assisting, especially when I mentioned the alligator. Sigh.

Houston is so very hot in the summer. It's like Orlando in that the heat and humidity stick to everything instead of being blown away by a gentle sea breeze. I walk about a block to get to the Curves across the street from the school, and I am covered with a thin veil of sweat before I even sit down to my first machine. "Personal reflection is over." Must go join the circle.
