A Perfect Day

We went to Sam Houston Park outside of Houston this weekend. It was a very long drive and the Houston Traffic was spotty. There were a lot of Yellow Jackets that scared some of the kids (and adults.) It rained almost the entire time we were there.

On Sunday, a group of interns from TIA's (Teacher I am Assisting) training group got together for an outing and they invited me to come along. One member of the group lives here in Houston and has a collection of kayaks. They loaded them up and we took a caravan out to Sam Houston State Park. I had never been outside of the Houston Metropolitan area before and it was beautiful. Several people who had never been in kayaks before (including TIA) had a chance to get out there and find out how much fun it is. We also learned that Yellow Jackets will crawl on you without stinging as long as they do not think you are a threat. A gentle rain began to fall, but we were all playing in the water while swimming or kayaking and all the food was under a tarp, so we played all day. It was wonderful to make five new kayakers and to bond with this group!

I suppose the lesson for me is A Perfect Day is all in how you tell the story.
