My trip to Texas was fun and worthwhile on several levels. It was so good to see my dear friend Suna and even better, to see her happy with where her life is going right now. After knowing me for nine years, and knowing I was a non-knitter, she finally got me to sit down and learn to knit -- granted we were at the knitting store where she teaches classes. Several relatives have tried to show me how over the years and have always failed, so I gave Suna the challenge. She was wonderful and patient, teaching an uncoordinated but kinesthetic learner just how it should "feel" to make the stitches properly, and checking each of my first several rows. And now, I have two small projects -- my original "mat" and a scarf made with chunky yarn that I am making for Aenea. Next I shall have to learn to bind off, and then maybe to perl...I will be a beginner for a long time to come. If she can tech me how to knit, working on teaching trainers should be a breeze for her!
The business part of the trip, where I went to Houston was also great. My boss and a colleague went to observe the school that is the American Montessori Society model and first training center for 12-15 year old students. It's the place where I took my training in 2001-2002. It was very enlightening to see the method working in a classroom setting. In addition, the five week old daughter of one of the instructors was there in the classroom and I got to have a little baby fix...so sweet...and so glad to return her to her mother and grandmother once my fix was filled!
