Up the mountain...almost

Jeremy had this great idea to repeat a fond memory from his childhood, climbing Smarts Mountain in New Hampshire. It's about 4 miles and a 2300 foot change in elevation. The temperature was around 85 degrees or so. The picture is a view from as high as we got before turning around.

I did pretty well at first then started sweating like crazy. Shortly after that I got very dizzy, weak and nauseous. We got to what was probably the last major climb, about 3 miles into it, and my body said: "Do this and I WILL pass out." So I began my descent and the family followed. I can barely remember coming down the mountain. We made it back to the hotel where I must have literally passed out for 2-3 hours. I woke up and my mouth was do dry it felt like cotton. I drank a lot of water and slowly perked up.

Well, after some research, it seems that I managed to converge several potentially bad situations with my medicine. I forgot to pack it and missed two days getting a refill and had taken my first dose post vacation starting yesterday morning. This medication can have bad side effects if one engages in too strenuous an activity in the heat, and if one is climbing. Oops. This morning I woke up with the only lasting effect being muscle pain in the backs of my calves.

We spent today in Hanover, NH, one of my favorite towns, going to museums and shopping in bookstores...ahh, bliss and recovery.

How scary! I bet Jeremy and Aenea were pretty concerned to see you so dramatically affected. Thank goodness you listened to your body's adamant warnings.

Now that you've had a little time to rest, and get caught up on your medicine, are you feeling better?

Take it easy -- this is supposed to be a vacation, after all!

Yes, much better, thanks.
