In this year of change, today we dropped the insurance agency we have been using for 14 years. I had authorized them in three hours of phone calls to put us on policy they quoted us since our prior insurer no longer writes in the state of Florida--that would be Safeco, and yes, we are dropping their auto insurance since they won't write homeowners in Florida anymore. Hey, about a law that bans companies that pull home insurance from offering any other types of insurance in the state?
Anyway, after that call, there are no letters, no phone calls, nothing to sign to activate the policy. We go on vacation, and then come back and get into the working grind, still no contact. Then on Tuesday, just as Ernesto is heading our way, we get a letter that informs us our policy was cancelled on August 24 because we had not contacted them about the new policy. WTH??? So, as soon as the storm cleared, I was on the phone with a new agency. The policy itself is with the same insurer quoted by the old agency, but a slightly lower rate since we chose a higher deductible. Who will be next on the "you're fired/GTH" list with us? Wait until October 1 to find out.
BTW, here is some interesting information on insurance in Florida. I had to dig out our original policy from when we had this house built in 2001. The premium for that year was $685. Today's new policy, a mere five years later is...$2700!!! and we don't live any closer than the five miles we have always lived from the coast.
Oh, and thanks to my Sports Racer friends for giving me one more Internet distraction. "I knows me some ugly" is stuck in my head.
